Educational Travel: Appliance of Science

Science is a fascinating subject, however its complex theories aren’t always easy to grasp. Student engagement with curriculum content is vital for making these principles more digestible, as recognised in a report commissioned by the Association of Science Education (ASE). Findings detailed that outdoor learning is hugely important when teaching science, allowing students to develop key life skills applicable to a variety of situations.

There is an excellent range of international venues offering pupils the opportunity to develop their love of science. Review Travel’s Group Travel Manager, Linda Duffy, has chosen her top international science destinations:

Discover Iceland

Experience the best of Iceland – Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss waterfall, Thingvellir National Park, Reykjavik, Solheimajokull glacier, Skogafoss waterfalls and many more spectacular sites. Inspiration and awe are abundant in the land of fire and ice, a perfect destination for scientists and geographers alike.

Berlin for science addicts

Berlin is a diverse city, offering visitors a range of historical and scientific destinations. Spectrum Science Centre, DESY and the Life Sciences Learning Lab are all at the forefront of scientific research in Berlin. A combination of tours and educational activities at these venues will enlighten students, enhancing classroom learning in the cultural hub of Europe.

Crazy about Cern

CERN – The European Organisation for Nuclear Research. Its reputation precedes it and the site in Geneva is the holy grail of educational science trips. Residential trips give visitors an insight into the application of science outside the classroom, enabling students to see where their studies can take them. Itineraries are flexible, allowing you to choose between an entire day in the laboratory, behind-the-scenes guided tours, exploring permanent exhibitions, or all three!
