How to navigate successful business rail travel

Travelling for work can be hectic, but opting to get there by train may ease some of this stress. Discounting some areas of the UK rail network that have received bad press recently, rail travel is often ideal for making fast, frequent cross country and international journeys.

We know that maximising productivity and efficiency on your journey is important. To help you make the most of your trip, we’ve put together this handy guide.

Lounge in style

Avoid a potentially stressful situation by arriving early to the station.

Many UK stations, such as London Euston, Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly, offer First Class lounges, where travellers can grab a coffee, catch up on emails and watch the news. Lounge access tends to be included in the price of a First Class ticket, or can be purchased for a small additional fee.

Having spare time before your journey allows you to relax and stay on schedule, allowing you to arrive at your destination ready to get down to business.

Go international

Eurostar is a high-speed railway service connecting major business capitals including London, Brussels and Paris. Since the increasingly popular service began 20 years ago, Eurostar has proven to be a quick and cost-effective mode of international transport, rivalling air travel in many cases.

Recently, Eurostar announced a collaboration with Virgin Trains. This will provide better route connections – making travel to popular business destinations like Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester more accessible for corporate travellers.

Get on board with the facilities

Popular rail services, like East Midlands Trains, Virgin Trains and Transpennine Express, offer First Class seating. These areas offer complimentary food and drink, extra table space and high-speed Wi-Fi, allowing you to use your journey time productively.

This makes it easy for you to catch up on work or prepare for that big conference, all from the comfort of your front-facing window seat (if that’s your preference!).

Stay in the loop

Although rail travel is usually very dependable, it’s not exempt from disruption. Engineering works and rail strikes can cause delays and cancellations, so it’s important to stay up to date with any news that could affect your journey.
